TD124 Shift Assembly - Part 2.

Above annotated photo shows a hub with two cam surfaces that control: 1- the idler wheel position relative to the 4-speed stepped pulley above and - 2- the on / off switch lever which is activated on and off at four positions.  This hub is controlled via the steel ribbon, driven in turn by the hub under the control knob on top.

*Above 2 photos: Right after disassembly, the driven hub with two cam surfaces.  This hub - with two cams - controls both the idler wheel position as well as that of the on/off switch. Switching off between speeds and back on when the idler wheel is in contact with the new position on the stepped pulley.

* Cam follower rises and lowers the idler wheel as machine operator shifts speeds.

* From below - what remains.  The idler wheel carrier assembly is still installed within the chassis bushing that holds it.

*Q: Should you remove the idler carrier from the chassis?  To check bushing for size and evidence of wear? 

* (chassis no.#27520) A: if you want to check the bushing and shaft for size and evidence of wear, it's not hard to disassemble.  Note the set screw.  Among the samples I've seen so far, I have yet to have the need to replace this bushing. For lube I use Texaco ROG. (straight 50 wt.)
